Flamingo Bar - Roppongi, Minato-ku, Tokyo (year unknown)

“It is unusual to see table dancing in bars in Japan, although it is common in America where dancers perform on customers tables when customers give tips to them. In this country, there was not such a bar where we could see such of shows by foreign dancers. Targeting men, this bar in Roppongi, a mecca of nightlife in Tokyo, was planned to be an entertaining spot which Japan has never seen. The details of target customers are men in their thirties and forties, who are mostly work for foreign affiliates. This bar employs female dancers from America, which is a home of entertainment business. They dance merrily and lively, sometimes put tips in garters, and whistle humorously between programs. The interior is surreal and futuristic. The focal point of the design is to express symbolically womanish gentleness and physical beauty and tense of a female body. Although interior elements are made of industrial materials, we can notice the finish shows hand work. After this bar opened, a part of the interior was renovated. A stage was remodeled higher and stools were installed. Now you can enjoy there shows in more comfortable surroundings.”
